Description of the Sample

        Six students were chosen who are representative of one English 101 class. Subject A 

 was an 18 year-old white male. Subject B was a 19 year-old white female. Subject C 

was a 19 year-old Cape Verdean female and Subject D was a 19 year-old white male. Two 

of the subjects were returning to college after years away from school. One of these 

students, Subject E, was working as a part-time police officer after doing two rotations in 

the military. Subject F was a 49-year old white female who had raised her children and was 

returning to school to finish her college education. The other subjects were just out of 

high school.
